Ian and Gwen Strobridge, both in their 80s, recently lost their Buchan home in the bushfires, and along with it, all their prized possessions.

For Ian, one of his most treasured possessions was a certificate which detailed his 40 years of service with the Shire of Tambo.

Upon finding out about Ian’s lost certificate, Grow Carer project officer, Jo Aquila, contacted East Gippsland Shire to see if they could replace the certificate.

With the help of shire executive assistant, Colleen Smith, whose husband, Gary, worked with Ian, the certificate was replaced.

Colleen said it touched her heart and she was more than happy to help recreate Ian’ certificate.

“I couldn’t believe it when I got the call to say the shire was replacing my certificate of service,” Ian said.

Ian worked for the Shire of Tambo from 1954 to 1994

Jo was able to present the new certificate to Ian and his wife Gwen at the Buchan Bush Nursing Centre recently.

Ian’s father, George Alfred Strobridge also worked for the Shire of Tambo for seven shillings and six pence per week, retiring in the 1950s, while his brother, Peter, also worked for the shire for a short time.
