Manning does it again

Manning does it again

Hot weather didn’t deter racegoers as a huge crowd flocked to the High Country for the running of the 148th edition of the Hinnomunjie Cup.
The cup is named in honour of High Country legend, Alec Manning, who learnt to shear in the region and was still deflocking sheep well in his 70s.
Local racing was where Manning found his niche, knocking up training and riding winners, having his last race ride at Wagga Wagga at the ripe old age of age of 62.
Manning’s son, Reg, has carried on the family tradition and on Saturday he added another  Hinnomunjie Cup to his large trophy cabinet, when Bonza Boots fought on strongly after being headed to beat the Traralgon trained Continuation and another Manning runner, last year’s winner, Cheeky Prince.
For Manning it was his 29th Hinnomunjie Cup victory, involved 17 times as jockey and now 12 as a trainer.
