Isobel celebrates a century

Isobel celebrates a century

Isobel Pirie travelled out from Omeo to her son's guest house, the Glen Wills Wilderness Retreat, to celebrate her 100th birthday on Sunday, October 29.
Isobel was born in Scotland. She grew up in Coatbridge, 15 miles east of Glasgow, with two older brothers.
In 1939 at the age of 16 she left school and worked for Rolls Royce and Scottish Motor Traction Co during the war years.
She met future husband Alex in 1946 who had recently qualified as a civil engineer. They married in 1949 and emigrated to Australia in 1950.
After a short stint in Sydney they moved to Melbourne for Alex's work with civil aviation.
Isobel worked on and off with various firms, including Australian paper mills and Myer, with most of her time being devoted to family life with a son and two daughters.
