Dream or nightmare?

Residents who have built homes in Brookfield Lakes, an estate on the edge of Bairnsdale's east end, are concerned about  proposed changes which would allow portable homes on an adjacent vacant parcel of land.
One concerned resident said allowing Unregistrable Moveable Dwellings (UMD's) was akin to creating a trailer park.
East Gippsland Shire Council (EGSC) has received a request for approval of an amended development plan for land located at 19 Lomandra Boulevard, Lucknow, located within the estate.
Currently the existing approved development plan is for a residential subdivision, providing approximately 97 residential allotments.
The proposal is to change the use and development from a residential subdivision to a residential village, providing up to 151 dwelling sites.
It is proposed the sites will be developed with UMD's.
Residents currently living in the estate were aghast to discover the development plan is exempt from public notice (advertising), although council has taken steps to inform those affected.

IMAGE: Concerned residents Kristin Lawson and Hans Rauter are worried the ambience of the estate will be destroyed if 151 unregistrable moveable dwellings are approved by East Gippsland Shire Council.
