Holidaymakers keeping it local

Holidaymakers are swarming into popular camping spots around East Gippsland.
Bruthen and Buchan are reporting a spike in visitation post Christmas and traders are happy their tills are tinkling.
While the weather has been perfect in attracting the holiday crowds to the area, the rainy days are also proving their worth in prompting tourists to come up from the water and splash the cash in shops and eateries.
In Bruthen on Tuesday, getting a car park in the town was difficult with people frequenting the cafe, bakery and new honey store.
The park benches in the centre of town were full and businesses reported once tourists had finished eating they wander in for a browse.
Bruthen Gallery’s arts and crafts have been selling well with “lots of tourists and plenty of people from Bairnsdale” popping in to shop.
