Shear smart, shear early

Shear smart, shear early

Local sheep farmers, John and Leanne White, of Lindenow South, have the smarts.
The couple who run a few thousand sheep on their property have managed to avoid the ongoing drought of shearer availability by arranging their flock to be shorn earlier than most.
“Our shearing was completed a month ago, we’re done and dusted,” Mr White, who is also an East Gippsland Shire councillor, told Primary Producer.
“I usually shear in June/July because it’s easier to find shearers in winter.”
The Whites didn’t have too much trouble sourcing shearers this year, but admit they’re harder to find in East Gippsland generally.
“Part of the team came from out of the area, we had to bring them in from central Gippsland,” Mr White said.
