Nungurner grass farce

Nungurner grass farce

A Nungurner resident said he was shocked to see among his Christmas cards a letter from the East Gippsland Shire Council threatening him with an $1800 fine unless he cuts his grass.
Michael Julier said he was taken aback when he opened his mail on December 20 to discover the letter from the shire giving him until January 10 to cut his grass to a maximum height of 100 millimetres.
Mr Julier says there is no grass growing along his boundary line and wonders if someone has done a drive-by and observed the grass growing up against his front fence as belonging to him, when in actual fact it’s sprouting from the overgrown and unruly nature strip on Nungurner Jetty Road, which he has previously been forbidden from touching because of its ’significant vegetation’.
It has since come to light that other residents in the area have received similar notices.
