Football season abandoned

East Gippsland Football Netball League officials have bitten the bullet and abandoned the 2021 season.
Uncertainty regarding the ongoing COVID restrictions meant the league was left with no other choice.
“Due to the ongoing uncertainty of restrictions the 2021 season has been abandoned for both the East Gippsland Football Netball League and the East Gippsland Junior Football Association. No premierships will be awarded. Minor premiers will be acknowledged. No League awards will be awarded due to the uneven number of games played by each club in 2021,” Football Netball East Gippsland commissioners said in a joint statement.
On Monday, prior to the league’s announcement, Stratford coach, Peter Morrison, like many other local football administrators, was concerned about the lack of fitness and preparedness that faced local footballers in the event finals would be played.
