Clifton Creek local, Ron Cornall, is by his own admission, excited to be watching grass grow.
The kikuyu oversowing demonstration opposite Clifton Creek Hall is providing that opportunity as the Foothills TopSoils Group seeks to find options for kikuyu-dominant pastures to ensure year-round groundcover and stock fodder.
A field day next Thursday, July 7, will showcase the demonstration, attended by kikuyu guru, Dr Neil Moss, who is also overseeing the project, comparing different methods of preparation of kikuyu for over sowing.
“It’s been an exceptional year, ‘kikuyu-heaven’ really, and it’s done really well, perhaps at the expense of other grasses,” Ron said.
“The next step of this demonstration, after the summer demonstration we did, is to find some techniques that make up for kikuyu’s winter weakness.
