AUSTRALIA DAY - What does it mean?

AUSTRALIA DAY - What does it mean?

Australia Day, Invasion Day, Survival Day, a public holiday for a barbecue with mates, whatever you want to call it, January 26 evokes a lot of mixed emotions, views and opinions.

For some, it brings feelings of relief and new beginnings with an opportunity to celebrate, while for our First Australians or Traditional Custodians it brings feelings of grief, sadness and mourning.

Image: The chief executive officer of Gippsland and East Gippsland Aboriginal Cooperative, Jamie Williamson, believes Australia Day should be moved to January 1.
