Floodwater create driver stupidity

Heavy rainfall across East Gippsland late last week resulted in 86 calls for assistance.
Bairnsdale was heavily impacted with the Mitchell River bursting its banks and spilling over the Bullumwaal Road and cutting off access to Pound Swamp Hill Road.
Bairnsdale received 98 millimetres of rain to 9am on Monday, while Glenaladale received the highest downpour in East Gippsland with 118mm reported by the Bureau of Meteorology.
The Bairnsdale SES unit was called out to 33 events involving floodwater issues, including people who had tried to drive through flooded roads.
A specialist SES unit from Melbourne was involved in the rescue of a local couple stuck on the roof of their 4WD at Wuk Wuk.
According to rescue crews, the couple was driving along the Lindenow-Glenaladale Road toward Wuk Wuk late on Sunday afternoon when their vehicle died in the floodwaters near the Wuk Wuk bridge.
