A truck carrying empty pallets from Sydney caused a section of the Great Alpine Road to be shutdown, near Mossiface, after an incident yesterday afternoon.

A mechanical failure with the truck’s brakes caused the fibre glass trailer to catch fire at about 3.30pm.

Several CFA appliances attended the scene near Howards Road as traffic was diverted from the Great Alpine Road.

The 34-year-old driver was uninjured and the road was eventually reopened, after a clean up, at about 9pm.
