Property impact

An application for a planning permit to develop a 208-lot subdivision at Wy Yung has raised the ire of local residents, who are concerned about the impact it will have on their properties which adjoin the development.
The Woody Group is planning to develop the 149-hectare subdivision at 30 Clifton West Road, which is presently grazing land.
At a recent planning consultation meeting, local resident, Tom Cameron, who has lived in Wy Yung for 40 years and whose property, in Bullumwaal Road, adjoins the development, said “all residents living north of the Mitchell River, including Wy Yung and Eastwood, will be impacted by the proposal”.
“If approved it will create a satellite suburb the size of Bruthen in the hills above Bairnsdale,” Mr Cameron said.
He said it would be a suburb without any of the urban services such as sewerage, public amenities, public services, footpaths or bike paths.
Mr Cameron said one of the main concerns was the stormwater runoff from the development, which would “flow down over our property and into Clifton Creek on the southern and eastern sides”.
