Linton Blackwell last Wednesday completed Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia’s ‘The Longest Run’ fundraiser, walking 100 kilometres while raising money for the foundation.
Linton surpassed his goal of $1000, reaching more than $2500 as he crossed the finish line at the Bairnsdale Rotunda.
Linton, who has battled prostate cancer, took part in the walk not only to raise funds, but raise awareness of the disease and how easily it can be detected by taking a simple blood test
“I was diagnosed at 60, within six months I was operated on. I had no symptoms and I think that is part of the problem,” he said.
“Get tested, it’s easy, it’s a blood test, that’s all it is to kick things off. There are plenty of support groups out there. No good having the best tractor in the paddock if you’re not there to drive it.”
