A 64-year-old man is in police custody after the discovery of a woman’s body in Bendoc, in far East Gippsland, yesterday morning.

Police were called to the town at 3.30am yesterday following reports of an assault.

Upon arriving at 6am, they located a deceased female. Homicide squad detectives and major crime scene investigators were enroute to Bendoc at the time of going to print.

It’s understood all parties are known to each other and the investigation is ongoing. The Advertiser has been told the woman and her partner had only moved to Bendoc two months ago.
