Gearing up for State Cup

This weekend the Bairnsdale Kart Club will host the 2019 Victorian State Cup (black plate) event.

Drivers will be coming from all over the state and interstate to compete in the event, all wanting to take home the black plate for their respective class to display on their karts for the next 12 months.

Racing is on all weekend and free for the public to come and watch, there will be a great display of drivers showing their skills in possibly wet conditions.

With a number of local drivers representing Bairnsdale in the event in a range of different classes, Bairnsdale Kart Club president, Peter Laity, is hoping that they all achieve victory and that everyone will go home happy with their results.

“It’s a huge thing for the club to be able to host the Victorian State Cup and it’s the biggest we’ve held since the street competition days, so it’s quite a big thing to have for the kart club and the Bairnsdale area,” he said.

“It’s the first time that we’ve hosted the Victorian State Cup and when it was offered to us we jumped at the opportunity.

“We have four local guys competing and it would be absolutely huge to see them standing on top of the podium at the end of the cup.

“It would be really good to see a local person win and to be honest they’ve got a very good chance of doing it.”

Track gates opened at 12pm yesterday for pit setup only, while controlled practice started at 9.30am today and ran until 5pm for all karters to get used to the track.

Saturday on track action will kick off at 8am and finish around 5pm. On Sunday racing kicks off at 8.30am and will go to until finals are completed, which will be around 1.30pm.

Gates are open free to the public all weekend, with easy car parking available thanks to the motorbike club next door.

The canteen is also open to everyone inside the clubrooms.

There are around 120 people competing in the Victorian State Cup in 11 different classes from juniors up to seniors.

The race order for the Victorian State Cup are Victorian combined medium, KA4 junior light, KA3 senior light, cadet nine, KA4 junior heavy, Victorian combined light, KA3 senior medium, Victorian combined masters, KA3 junior, cadet 12 and TaG 125 light.
