East Gippsland Photographic Society (EGPS) was triumphant recently when it came equal first with the Southern Suburbs Club in the Victorian Photographic Societies (VAPS) annual photographic ‘Print’ competition in Warrnambool.

The Southern Suburbs Club was formed in 1952. The East Gippsland club is much younger, at just 10 years, and it is the second time it has been among the winners in its 10-year existence. Last time EGPS won outright was in 2013 at the Brighton conference.

Each year the Victorian governing body has a conference hosted by one of the 60 clubs in Victoria giving all Victorian club members an opportunity to visit another area and be shown around with photo shoots and also attend seminars showcasing interesting guest speakers.

A selection of photos has now been chosen to represent Victoria at the Apscon convention (Australian Photographic Society) on the Gold Coast in September.
Among those selected is East Gippsland member, Veronic Curtis’ Succulents
.

EGPS will celebrate World Photography day this Sunday with an open day at Delvine Hall, 40 Macarthur Street, Bairnsdale, next to the East Gippsland Historical Society. The open day will provide an opportunity for members of the public to find out more about the EGPS camera club, join in activities and look at a variety of member’s photos and crafts produced with photos.

The East Gippsland Photographic society will hold its next workshop on Wednesday, August 22, at the St Mary’s Parish Centre, Pyke Street, Bairnsdale, starting with set up and registration at 7pm. The highlight of the night will be the judging of the ‘angles’ competition, which will be judged by visiting Victorian Association of Photographic Societies judge, Ron Cork, from Knox Camera Club in Melbourne.

EGPS recently held its annual general meeting, and this next workshop will be the first time new president, Phyllis Wright, will chair the meeting and introduce the new committee.

Members are reminded their next competition photos for ‘Hands at work’ are due in by Monday, August 20.
