Firefighters in East Gippsland have been kept on their toes this weekend with small blazes being extinguished across the region.

A small fire 12 kilometres west of Buchan was brought under control just after 7pm on Saturday, while a larger 1.2 hectare fire 20km north of Orbost was contained close to 11pm on Saturday.

Yesterday morning 10 firefighting vehicles were able to contain a 4.5-hectare blaze 12km south west of Cann River.

These smaller fires pale in comparison to the Rosedale fire which continues to simmer away across 12,000 hectares with local residents urged to stay informed.

Local residents have also been urged to follow fire danger warnings this week with the mercury tipped to 35 degrees Celsius and above from today through to Wednesday, with temperatures remaining above 30 until Friday.
