Fight to prevent subdivision

A group of Paynesville residents are concerned about a plan currently before the East Gippsland Shire to develop a multilot subdivision in Fullarton Drive.
The first stage of the subdivision, which would involve 59 lots, has created anxiety for residents living on Fullarton Drive and in nearby streets.
A planning application that came before the East Gippsland Shire Council last week in relation to the development attracted more than 50 objections.
Those objectors want council to refuse the application for the subdvision at 10 Fullarton Drive citing a number of reasons.
Paynesville resident, David Nicastro, said there is potential for stormwater discharge to negatively impact on the highly sensitive RAMSAR protected Point Fullarton wetlands, located about 20 metres from the proposed subdivision.
Mr Nicastro said shire officers had recommended approval of the proposed development "before a federal government environmental assessment of the land is completed."
