Herefords the stars of Ensay

Plans are underway to paint a mural on the corrugated water tank at Ensay, near the cattle yards, in what locals are hoping could become a tourist attraction for visitors to East Gippsland.
Ensay Hereford Stud breeder, Barry Newcomen, initially came up with the idea to paint the water tank, just up from the River Inn Hotel at Ensay.
He asked the local fire brigade if it would be okay and after receiving their approval, put the word around the artistic community as to who would be prepared to paint it.
“Some of the artists approached thought it might be hard painting on the corrugated iron, so I asked Terry Petersen and he agreed,” Mr Newcomen said.
Terry Petersen ran Petersen’s gallery in Omeo for many years, but it is presently closed after he and his wife, Ann, relocated from The Manse in Omeo back to the gallery.
