GAR not so great

GAR not so great

As the ski season is poised to open next week and the High Country becomes  busier, the Great Alpine Road (GAR)  between Omeo and Dinner Plain remains in poor condition.
Snowfall on roads makes them trickier and more dangerous to traverse without the underlying issues of having a poor road surface.
Just a few kilometres outside Omeo, as you head toward the snowfields, the road surface has simply dropped away about 25 centimetres.
While the section of road has now been sealed off with plastic bollards, it’s a reminder of the just how precarious the road surface is.
Further on, Regional Roads Victoria is constructing a small rock wall by the side of the Great Alpine Road to allow water to escape more easily should floodwaters descend across the arterial.
