| EAST GIPPSLAND NEWSPAPERS 2 EAST GIPPSLAND FIELD DAYS THURSDAY, APRIL 4, 2024 Field day fun goes gangbusters It is the most iconic agricultural event on the East Gippsland calendar, attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors since its beginning in 1986. And last year’s bumper crowd showed that the East Gippsland Field Days, which is run by the Lindenow Lions Club, is as loved by local businesses and families as ever before. It also serves the purpose of showcasing the products, equipment and services of local vendors, and allows visitors to see the vast range in one location. East Gippsland Field Days returns to the Bairnsdale Aerodrome on April 5 and 6, featuring more than 200 agricultural and rural exhibitors, as well as food and family entertainment. The popular Dino Races, hosted by LJ Hooker Bairnsdale, will also return at their site, and is sure to bring fun and laughter. Live music is going gangbusters at this year’s field days, with a jam-packed line-up on Saturday from 10am-3pm. Artists include Olivia Lay, Mike Elrington, the Todd Cook duo and more. What many people don’t realise is that in addition to supporting rural and agricultural businesses, some of the funds raised by the Lindenow Lions Club through the field days is donated back to local charities and community organisations each year. In recent years the funds from field days have helped Lindenow and district local sporting clubs, schools, kindergartens and various groups to upgrade facilities, purchase new equipment and uniforms, and to complete a range of projects. Site bookings are open now and there is plenty of variety in sizes both powered and unpowered to choose from. To book a site, and for more information about the East Gippsland Field Days 2024, visit the field days website. EN22359 EN22698

A hub for agriculture The Gippsland Agricultural Group (GAgG) has received funding to build the Gippsland Agricultural Centre. Located at the Gippsland Research Farm near Bairnsdale at the entry point to the East Gippsland Field Days site, this centre will be the hub of a thriving agricultural precinct. This project has been three years in the making, and received $984,000 from the Black Summer Bushfire Recovery Program. GAgG applied for a grant in late 2021 and were successful in 2022. Unfortunately, they were caught with the increase in price of steel thanks to COVID (inflation on costs were 30-35 per cent), hence the delay in building. The grant funds were no longer enough to cover the cost of the initial plans so they had to go back to the drawing board and make adjustments. There has been an immense amount of community and volunteer effort that has gone into this building, without that support GAgG would not have been able to accomplish as much as they have. Volunteer hours include: - The executive team volunteering all project management hours - Painting - Landscaping - Plumbing fit off It’s hoped this building will be a valuable asset to the community for many years to come. EAST GIPPSLAND NEWSPAPERS | 5 EAST GIPPSLAND FIELD DAYS THURSDAY, APRIL 4, 2024 The smartest way to invest in solar Australia is one of the sunniest places on the planet, so it’s not surprising that the lucky country also has the highest uptake of rooftop solar panels in the world. In fact, there are now more than three million solar systems installed on homes and businesses around the country. With solar energy’s proven ability to reduce energy bills and carbon emissions, it’s easy to understand the popularity of rooftop renewables. The team at Solahart Bairnsdale understand investing in solar for either your home or business can be a big decision, and it’s hard to know who you can trust – especially as many solar companies have sprung up suddenly to cash in on the solar boom, only to disappear just as quickly. This has left many unwary customers with no service and worthless warranties. That’s why it pays to shop around and choose a company with a long-term track record. Solahart has been one of Australia’s most trusted names in solar since 1953. In almost 70 years, the company has installed more than a million solar hot water systems and more than 600,000 solar panels. Along the way, they’ve developed a reputation for quality, reliability, and service that’s unmatched in the industry. Building on its pioneering expertise in solar hot water, Solahart now offers a total-home solar solution with a full suite of smart products designed to soak up and store more energy from the Australian sun. And if you don’t know where to start, don’t worry, the team at Solahart Bairnsdale will guide you through the process and plan a tailor-made system for your home and your budget starting with a free on-site solar assessment. Once you’ve selected your system, Solahart manages the entire installation process with its team of professional installers. For extra peace of mind, all Solahart dealers are accredited by the Clean Energy Council (CEC). But that’s just the beginning of the story. All Solahart systems are designed and built to last year after year in the harshest Australian conditions. Solahart rigorously tests all its products to ensure their durability and efficiency. It’s this relentless focus on quality that allows Solahart to back its products with such comprehensive warranties. Solahart’s Silhouette solar panels, for example, come with a Solahart 25-year Australian product warranty. So, if you’re looking to join the millions of smart Aussies who have made the switch to solar, make sure you do your homework first. Because not all solar is the same and no other solar company has a track record like Solahart. | EAST GIPPSLAND NEWSPAPERS 6 EAST GIPPSLAND FIELD DAYS THURSDAY, APRIL 4, 2024 Isuzu’s focus on evolution Over the years the typical one-tonne ute has evolved from a simple two door cab chassis to a versatile utility for all occasions—with space for the family in air-conditioned comfort, cargo out back in the tray and 3.5-tonne towing capacity for the trailer in tow. After introducing the most significant update since launching in late-2020, the 2023 (23MY) D-MAX range refined with new features, new variants, and a refreshed exterior design and colour palette has grown in popularity to chart as Australia’s third best-selling vehicle in 2023. Favoured for the hardy, wipe-clean surfaces, and tradesman focus, the SX grade added three new variants to the range, all powered by Isuzu’s frugal RZ4E-TC 1.9-litre turbo-diesel engine, paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. After a successful Australian debut powering the 2022 D-MAX SX Single Cab Chassis 4x2, the RZ4E-TC quickly earned its stripes with motorists as a fuel efficient and versatile powerplant, one that arrived at the right time as fuel prices at the bowser soared to record heights. With the cost of living at an all-time high and many relying on their ute as a tool of trade or the family hauler, getting the most out of their four-wheel investment remains of paramount importance for many motorists. After crunching the numbers to simulate real-world costs to own and operate each ute over three-years, both the 1.9-litre and 3.0-litre turbo-diesel powered variants of the popular D-MAX SX Crew Cab 4x4 Ute were declared the two best-value 4x4 utes in Australia for the Wheels’ inaugural Best Value 4x4 Ute awards. Since the launch of the current generation D-MAX in 2020, Isuzu has introduced refinements to its active safety suite to improve the functionality and user experience. And, with close to half of all D-MAX owners choosing the Isuzu for its towing prowess, Isuzu engineers have simplified the towing setup process by automatically disabling Blind Spot Monitoring and Rear Cross Traffic Alert when a trailer is hitched and detected via the genuine trailer wiring harness. This refinement comes just a year after Isuzu introduced the Lane Support System Switch that allows the Driver to toggle lane keeping functions on or off, at the simple push of a button. Australians have long adored the D-MAX as one of the top-choices in the ute segment, praising it for its practicality, versatility, and reputation for durability. Favoured by families as the default choice for any assignment, it can often be seen doubling duties as a workhorse during the week, and a vehicle of escape and adventure during the weekend. | EAST GIPPSLAND NEWSPAPERS 8 EAST GIPPSLAND FIELD DAYS THURSDAY, APRIL 4, 2024 Dairy automation your way If it's time to upgrade your dairy, you're in luck. Installing an automated milking system is now cost comparable to installing a traditional system, and the team at Lely Center Gippsland have the experience to design a system that works with your infrastructure - from robot retrofits to incorporating feed pads and keeping cows moving on a voluntary, pasture-based system. "Every farm set-up is different and you can get into automation without breaking the bank", says Center Manager Dale Serong. "Last week, we started up four robots that we installed into a disused herringbone shed. On another farm, the yard of the rotary dairy had a roof put over it and then six robots were bolted in. "We've worked with enough setups now, optimising them over time with the clients to get the results they're after, we know what works and what doesn't. "We have a large and highly experienced team based on the ground in Gippsland, from robot installers and technicians to robot software and farm management experts. Not to mention dozens of Lely robot farmers in Gippsland now that share knowledge between farms. It's a real support network." Lely Center Gippsland installed 35 Lely Astronaut milking robots on Gippsland farms in 2023, and now support more than 80 milking robots across the region. They also specialise in automatic calf feeders and automatic feed pushers, which are becoming more common locally as farmers incorporate feed pads into their robotic systems. Dale explains that designing Lely Astronaut setups is easy because of the walk-through robot box design they call "i-flow". Cows walk straight into the stall and the robot arm uses a 3D camera and laser system to meet the cow where she is and put cups on, saving time by remembering the last 10 mappings of that cow. This means the Astronaut suits all sizes of cows and provides freedom of movement inside the box, with studies showing four per cent improved cow flow compared to no i-flow. "Lely designs their robots around the cow's needs and natural behaviour, so they're motivated to continue visiting the machines", Dale said. "This is sixth generation technology, so the current A5 model is the result of refining that technology. Its water and electricity efficiency are also excellent. These are the advantages that come with decades of research and development." Lely Center Gippsland will be at site R25 at the East Gippsland Field Days, Bairnsdale Aerodrome, from April 5 and 6. | EAST GIPPSLAND NEWSPAPERS 16 EAST GIPPSLAND FIELD DAYS THURSDAY, APRIL 4, 2024 East Gippsland secondary students get career jump start More East Gippsland students are jump starting their careers via the Vocational Education and Training Delivered to Secondary Schools (VDSS) program at TAFE Gippsland this year. TAFE Gippsland has experienced an increase in VDSS enrolments in 2024, with the importance of vocational education and training to address the skills shortage and legitimate career pathways at the forefront. TAFE Gippsland chief exectuive, Laura Macpherson said the introduction of the Victorian Senior Secondary Reform last year enabled more students to include a vocational qualification into their secondary schooling providing opportunities for students to gain pathways into further education and employment. “VDSS allows students to increase their career prospects and start their vocational training while still at school,” she said. “This is a practical pathway students can take to complete their secondary education and assist them in achieving the career of their choice at the same time. “TAFE Gippsland has welcomed 1135 students to its campuses for VDSS, which is an extra 230 students from 2023. “These students are gaining hands-on, real-world experience in their chosen industry which can lead directly to apprenticeships, traineeships, further education or to employment.” VDSS students can choose from a range of course options including business, cookery, civil construction, hospitality, automotive, electrotechnology, allied health, building and construction, conservation and ecosystem management, agriculture, hair and beauty, animal care, early childhood education and many more. For further information on TAFE Gippsland, visit their site, E16, at the East Gippsland Field Days. EAST GIPPSLAND NEWSPAPERS | 17 EAST GIPPSLAND FIELD DAYS THURSDAY, APRIL 4, 2024 Playful Paws brings furry fun Do you have a new puppy or a dog that needs some basic manners? Or a dog that is showing some more serious behaviour issues? Playful Paws can help you. Their business has been training dogs at all levels since 2013, and was founded by Megs Hopman, an accredited dog trainer who has 20 years experience with a background in dog behaviour and training. At Playful Paws they believe in order for us to have a better relationship with our best friend we need to have an understanding of how they communicate. The team at Playful Paws aim for you to have the best relationship with your dog to be able to take your dog to all the places you want, and help you achieve your goals through positive reinforcement, fun and training. Playful Paws have options to suit all people and dogs and the stage that the team is at. From group classes to daycare to private training, you'll find something to suit everyone. Their newly refurbished boutique retail store stocks items specifically for your furry best friend. Did you know that 80 per cent of how dogs learn is through our body language and our tone of voice? So how can we be better communicators with our dogs? The first four things we can focus on to help strengthen our relationship with our dogs are: CALM - Our dogs can pick up on the physical changes in our body, before we even know how we are feeling. So when you come home grumpy from work, your dog can mirror this and be more 'cheeky'. Take a deep breath and leave your day at the door. Or if you want to interact with your dog, go and do something stress free and fun - like run through some tricks, go on a sniffari or have an exploration in the yard. CLEAR - Setting up clear expectations and boundaries is a must. It's so easy (particularly in multiple people households) to send mixed messages to your dog. For example being allowed to jump up to say hello on one person, but not another. The best thing to do is write down some 'house rules' that you are working on so everyone is on the same page. CONSISTENT - When you have your rules, stick to them. Initially dogs don't understand different rules for different circumstances (this can come later with experience). For example, if one day your dog is allowed on the couch, and the next day they are not allowed to, they can get confused and then make up their own rules. CONFIDENT - As dogs can mirror our emotions, if you are feeling anxious, stressed or worried about a situation, this can change your dogs behaviour. For example if you are worried about walking past another dog, our inclination is to hold our breath, tense up and pull on the lead - your dog can then be worried about the situation (because you are) before they have even seen a dog. So before you work with your dog (in any capacity) take a deep breath, shake off your daily stress, set a clear goal and most importantly have fun. | EAST GIPPSLAND NEWSPAPERS 18 EAST GIPPSLAND FIELD DAYS THURSDAY, APRIL 4, 2024 Big things coming from Turnbulls The team at Turnbulls are looking forward to introducing something new to this year’s East Gippsland Field Days - and they’re big. Alongside their Hino Trucks, for which they’ve been agents for nearly 18 months, they’ve recently expanded to now also be authorised sales, service and parts agents for Mercedes-Benz, Freightliner and Fuso Trucks. Trading as Turnbulls Gippsland, the three new brands joining the Turnbulls garage are part of the Daimler Truck Group, an importer of a range of commercial vehicles and the world’s leading truck company, which has been providing Australian customers with class-leading trucks for almost 60 years. The Turnbulls team are excited to have a range of new trucks on display at the Field Days this year, including representation from all of the three new brands plus Hino, and are looking forward to finding the right transport solution for your needs. Mercedes-Benz Trucks are leaders in the field of innovation, reliability and safety. The brand stands not only for efficiency, but also for first-class product and service quality. The truck range has everything from long haul through to distribution applications covered. Freightliner Trucks are built for Australia’s harsh driving conditions, and developed with the driver in mind. As the number one selling heavy-duty truck in the United States, the new Cascadia represents a new era in trucking for Freightliner in Australia, with an unprecedented level of investment made in local engineering and testing to ensure it is the best truck ever built for Australia. Manufactured in Japan, Fuso Trucks represent over 80 years of Japanese heritage. Sold in Australia for more than 50 years, they have a long-standing reputation for producing reliable and durable vehicles. Fuso boasts a comprehensive range of truck models, covering all three-truck market segments; light, medium and heavy duty. And last but certainly not least, Hino offers a complete range of next-generation light, medium and heavy-duty transport solutions to suit every business. As you would expect from a Toyota-affiliated company, Hino continues to set the standards for safety, performance, efficiency and comfort. In addition to new and used truck sales, Turnbulls also offers servicing and genuine parts across all four brands. Their fully equipped workshop is designed to keep downtime to a minimum. The Turnbulls name has been a part of the automotive history in the Gippsland region for over 70 years, and spans four generations. Having owned and operated Hino trucks as part of their Turnbull Hire business, Dealer Principal David Turnbull, identified an exciting opportunity to further expand the Turnbull Group and open a Hino truck dealership in Sale in 2022. “We’re excited to offer these products to the broader Gippsland community,” he said. With the introduction of Mercedes-Benz, Freightliner and Fuso trucks, it means we can now offer a solution to every business need, from heavy-duty, long haul prime movers through to light trucks that can be driven on a standard drivers licence.” “The Turnbull Group is focused on supporting our local community – our goal is to provide better support to our local transport industries and trades that would have previously travelled hours to Melbourne for sales, servicing and repairs.” Conveniently located on the busy Princes Highway in Sale, the purpose-built, full service facility is in a prominent and easily accessible location. The Turnbulls team is looking forward to the East Gippsland Field Days, introducing something new to the annual event. EN22502
